VSCL Students Selected for Summer 2026 Internships

Many students of the Texas A&M Vehicle Systems & Control Laboratory have been selected for internships for the Summer of 2026. These internships show VSCL student representation at a variety of companies and institutions across the United States. Students which have been selected for internships in the Summer of 2026 include:

Jillian Bennett will be interning with the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division in Patuxent River, Maryland with the STEM Student Employment Program (SSEP) implementing an adaptive multiple time-scale controller (KAMS) on a VTOL vehicle.

Raul Santos accepted an internship with the Force Projection Sector of John Hopkins University APL in Laurel, Maryland where he will be a Missiles GNC Engineering Intern.

Sadie Binz is joining the Naval Research Office (NRO) in Washington DC as a NREIP Intern working on single and multi agent reinforcement learning.

Seth Johnson accepted an internship with VectorNav Technologies in Dallas,Texas as a Navigational Engineering Intern where he will be working on software for sensor data fusion.

Aidan Timofte is joining General Atomics ASI in San Diego, California as a Flight Controls Engineering intern.

Lily Mikulas accepted an internship with the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) Autonomous Capabilities Team (ACT3), facilitated through the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI).

Allision Barnes will be an Aviation Programs Engineering Intern with Garmin in Olathe, Kansas facilitating avionics integration with OEMs.

Bella Grayson will be joining NASA at Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas as a systems engineering intern supporting Artemis III and IV.

Paige Warren is joining Gulfstream in Savannah, Georgia as a Flight Sciences Engineering Intern – Control Laws working on control law theory and simulation.

Laura Escamilla accepted an internship with AeroVironment in Moorpark, California as an Autonomy Engineering Intern.

Izzy Peressim was selected for the S-REU at Texas A&M University with Dr. Valasek. She will be researching the use of human eye gaze for improving the real-time training and mission performance of intelligent agents

Ishaan Bansal will be a GNC software engineering intern for SpaceX in Redmond, Washington working on Starlink.

VSCL Students Selected for Summer 2023 Internships

Many students of the Texas A&M Vehicle Systems & Control Laboratory have been selected for offsite internships for the Summer of 2023. These internships show VSCL student representation at a variety of companies and institutions across the United States. Students which have been selected for internships in the Summer of 2023 include:

VSCL Graduate Research Assistant and Ph.D Student Chris Leshikar has been selected for a Summer 2023 internship with the Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation this summer in Savannah, GA. Chris will be working in the Flight Dynamics group on system identification methods and analyses for jets going through the certification process.

 

 

 

 

 

VSCL Graduate Research Assistant and Ph.D Student Hannah Lehman has been selected for a Summer 2023 research internship at Sandia National Laboratory in Albuquerque, NM. Hannah has been working as a Year-Round Research & Development Intern since 2020, with a principal focus of applying machine learning to defense vehicles.

 

 

 

 

 

VSCL Graduate Research Assistant and MS student MD-Nazmus Sunbeam has been selected for a Summer 2023 internship with Starfish Space in Seattle, WA. Sunbeam will be working on computer vision / navigation DL algorithms for space vehicles.

 

 

 

 

 

 

VSCL Graduate Research Assistant and MS Student Cassie-Kay McQuinn has been selected for a Summer 2023 research internship at the Airforce Research Labatory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, OH.

 

 

 

 

 

 

jillianVSCL Graduate Research Assistant Jillian Bennett has been selected for a Summer 2023 research internship with VSCL. Jillian will be starting the adaptive time scale control project.

 

 

 

 

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant Seth Johnson has been selected for a Summer 2023 internship with VectorNav in Dallas, TX. Seth will be working as a Nevigation Engineer.

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant Yuki Janvier has been selected for a Summer 2023 internship with Atlassian in Austin, TX. Yuki will be working as a Software Engineering Intern.

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant Katelyn Lancaster has been selected for a Summer 2023 internship with Lockheed Martin in Marietta, GA. Katelyn will be doing Test and Evaluation engineering.

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant Carla Zaramella has been selected for a Summer 2023 internship with Raytheon in Tewsbury, MA. Carla will be working as a “Whole Life Program – Systems Engineering Intern” in RTX Missiles and Defense. She will be working with a team to ensure that hardware and systems are effective, reliable and maintainable, the goal of WLE.

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant Laura Escamilla has been selected for a Summer 2023 research internship with VSCL. Laura will be working with a Vector nav calibration for the anaconda, and will support the Robust Threat Detection project.

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant Abby Andrews has been selected for a Summer 2023 research internship with Impact Systems Engineering in Temple, TX. Abby will be working with 4200 and 5200 3D printers, with her role primarily focusing on de-powering parts and structuring builds units.

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant Payton Clem has been selected for a Summer 2023 research internship with VSCL. Payton will be working with systems architecture on the Robust Threat Detection project.

Many students of the Texas A&M Vehicle Systems & Control Laboratory have been selected for offsite internships for the Summer of 2022. These internships show VSCL student representation at a variety of companies and institutions across the United States. Students which have been selected for internships in the Summer of 2022 include:

VSCL Graduate Research Assistant Connor Atkins has been selected for a Summer 2022 internship with Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM. Connor will be working as a Graduate Student Intern and assisting with documentation/procedure and testing of new systems within the physics lab. Connor has been a member of VSCL since 2018 and has worked on numerous projects. Currently, he is working with the flight testing group at the RELLIS Campus. Having experience with both the software and hardware sides of the vehicles, he performs preflight maintenance and aids in the testing of a variety of UAS that VSCL handles.

 

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant Alex Gross has been selected for a Summer 2022 internship at Sandia National Laboratory in Albuquerque, NM. Alex will be working as a Research & Development Intern focusing on applying machine learning to hypersonic applications. Alex is a Junior and has been a member of VSCL since 2020. He has focused his research on UAS autonomous guidance and landing, embedded systems, and user-interface integration.

 

 

 

 

VSCL Graduate Research Assistant and Ph.D Student Hannah Lehman has been selected for a Summer 2022 research internship at Sandia National Laboratory in Albuquerque, NM. Hannah has been working as a Year-Round Research & Development Intern since 2020, with a principal focus of applying machine learning to defense vehicles. Hannah started working with VSCL as an undergraduate in the Spring of 2017, with her major roles including managing the flight simulator lab and performing research into reinforcement learning for use onboard aircraft. Hannah graduated with her B.S. in Aerospace Engineering in May 2020 and and continued with VSCL to pursue her Ph.D.

 

 

 

 

VSCL Graduate Research Assistant and M.S. Student Cassie-Kay McQuinn has been selected for a Summer 2022 research internship at Sandia National Laboratory in Albuquerque, NM. Cassie will be a Research and Development Intern with a focus of applying autonomy solutions to advance the national security mission. Cassie has been a member of VSCL since Spring 2021 and joined as a M.S. student in the Spring 2022 semester. Cassie-Kay’s main interests include flight test engineering, aircraft dynamics, and system identification.

 

 

 

 

 

VSCL Graduate Research Assistant Md Nazmus Sunbeam has been selected for a Summer 2022 internship with the Army Research Laboratory in Aberdeen, MD. Sunbeam will be working as a Summer Student Researcher with the Human Research and Engineering Directorate developing algorithms and extensions for Cycle-of-Learning. Cycle-of-Learning is a framework for quick training of AI agents through human interaction. Sunbeam has been a member of VSCL: since August 2021. His research has focused on advancing the Cycle-of-Learning by investigating the use of similarity metrics.

 

 

 

 

 

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant Carla Zaramella has been selected for a Summer 2022 internship at Raytheon Technologies in Tewksbury MA. Carla will be working as a Whole Life Program – Systems Engineering Intern in RTX Missiles and Defense with a team to ensure that hardware and systems are effective, reliable and maintainable. Carla is a Sophomore and has been a member of VSCL since January of 2022 and has been involved in flight testing and supporting research for system identification.

Michaela Stratton Selected for Summer 2021 Undergraduate Summer Research Grant (USRG) Program in VSCL

VSCL is proud to welcome and host Michaela Stratton for the 2021 Undergraduate Summer Research Grant (USRG) Program, where she will be researching Reinforcement Learning for aerospace applications.  Stratton is a rising junior at North Carolina State University currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering. She  maintains an interest in Computer Vision, Robotics, and Autonomous Machines. Her research interest began during her freshman year when she  developed a project that she presented at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research. The Research  involved evaluating the viability of using Computer Vision and Machine learning in order to translate American Sign Language(ASL) in real-time.

VSCL Students selected for Summer 2020 Internships

Many students of the Texas A&M Vehicle Systems & Control Laboratory have been selected for offsite internships for the Summer of 2020. These internships show VSCL student representation at a variety of companies and institutions across the United States. Students which have been selected for internships in the Summer of 2020 include:

VSCL Graduate Research Assistant and Ph.D. Student Ritwik Bera has been selected for a Summer 2020 internship at US Army Research Lab ’s Human Research and Engineering Directorate in Aberdeen, MD. Ritwik will be working as a Research Associate on the ARL-HRED initiative to investigate how humans can shape the behavior of autonomous machines driven by learning algorithms.

VSCL Graduate Research Assistant and M.S. student Blake Krpec has been selected for a Summer 2020 internship at US Army Research Lab in Aberdeen, MD.  Blake will be working as a Journeyman Research Fellow on the US Army initiative to investigate a potential target tracking /following system involving one UAS being able to detect another UAS, and navigate relative to said target. Blake has been a member of VSCL since Fall of 2016, where he supported flight test projects, sensor and hardware integration, aircraft performance, and other target tracking efforts.

Incoming VSCL Graduate Research Assistant and Ph.D Student Hannah Lehman has been selected for a Summer 2020 research internship at Sandia National Laboratory in Albuquerque, NM. Hannah will be working as a Research & Development Intern, with a principal focus of applying machine learning to defense vehicles. Hannah started working with VSCL as an undergraduate in the Spring of 2017, with her major roles including managing the flight simulator lab and performing research into reinforcement learning for use onboard aircraft. Hannah will graduate with her BS in Aerospace Engineering in May 2020 and will be returning in the fall to pursue her Ph.D.

VSCL Graduate Research Assistant and Master of Science Student Morgan Wood has been selected for a Summer 2020 internship at  VectorNav Technologies, Dallas, TX. Morgan will be working as a Navigation Engineer Intern.  Morgan started working with VSCL in the Fall of 2019, with his major roles including research for Army Futures Command on coordinated maneuvering of air and ground vehicles.

VSCL Students Selected for Summer 2019 Internships

VSCL Graduate Research Assistant and Ph.D. Student Vinicius G. Goecks has been selected for a Summer 2019 internship at the US Army Research Lab in Aberdeen, MD. Vinicius will be working as a Research Fellow on the US Army initiative to investigate how efficiently transition and update policies/controllers, trained initially with human demonstrations, using off-policy actor-critic reinforcement learning in the Cycle-of-Learning. Vinicius has been an active member of VSCL since Spring 2016, focusing on human-machine interaction and the control of UAS with Machine Learning, and the Intelligent Motion Video Target Tracking for UAS.

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant Student Hannah Lehman has been selected for a Summer 2019 research internship as part of the NSF funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. Hannah will be working as a Research Intern, with a principal focus of facilitating multi agent machine learning across heterogeneous agents. Hannah started working with VSCL in the Spring of 2017, with her major roles including managing the flight simulator lab and performing research into reinforcement learning for use onboard aircraft.

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant and B.S. Aerospace Engineering student Brandon Lansdell spent the Summer of 2018 and 2019 at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control in Grand Prairie, TX working as a Systems Engineer on the PAC-3 Missile Defense Program. During his time there, he has worked in simulation and algorithm development, as well as test operations. Brandon has been an active member of VSCL since Spring 2018, focusing on a multi agent architecture system created by VSCL students called CLARK.

VSCL Graduate Research Assistant and M.S. Aerospace Engineering student Blake Krpec was selected to visit US Army Research Lab in Aberdeen, MD during summer 2019. Blake will be visiting for 2 weeks where he will work with engineers at Army Research Lab on developing autonomous vehicle systems. He will be working as a Journeyman Research Fellow on the US Army initiative to investigate a potential target tracking /following system involving one UAS being able to detect another UAS, and navigate relative to said target. Blake revied his bachelor’s of science from A&M in Aerospace Engineering in May 2019, and has been a member of VSCL since Fall of 2016. VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant and B.S. Computer Engineering Student Mia Brown has been selected for a Summer 2019 internship at Dell Technologies in Round Rock, TX. Mia will be working as an Enterprise Security Analyst Intern, where she will be analyzing the security procedures for internal products at Dell Technologies. Mia started working with VSCL in the Spring of 2017, with her major roles including working in the Texas A&M University Engineering Flight Simulator and helping to develop a means for evaluating human factors aspects for Head Mounted Displays (HMD) for Enhanced Vision System technologies.

VSCL Graduate Research Assistant and Ph.D. Student Garrett Jares has been selected for a Summer 2019 Internship with Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM. Garrett will be working as a Year-Round Graduate Student Intern – R&D with the Navigation, Guidance, & Control Organization. Garrett has been a member of VSCL since Fall 2018, focusing his work on UAS embedded systems, flight operations, and cybersecurity for UAS. He is also the lead engineer in the engineering flight simulator lab.

These internships show VSCL student representation at a variety of companies and institutions across the United States. Students which have been selected for internships in the Summer of 2018 include:

VSCL Graduate Research Assistant and Ph.D. Student Vinicius G. Goecks has been selected for a Summer 2018 internship at US Army Research Lab in Aberdeen, MD. Emily will be working as a Test Engineer Intern, with a principal focus of automating and expediting the verification and validation of products at VectorNav.  Emily started working with VSCL in the Spring of 2016, with her major roles including managing the Texas A&M University Engineering Flight Simulator and developing a means for evaluating human factors aspects for Head Mounted Displays (HMD) for Enhanced Vision System technologies.

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant and B. S. Aerospace Engineering student Charles Noren has been selected for a Summer 2018 internship at NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA. Charles will be working as a Technical Intern at the Autonomy Incubator. He will be performing research on guidance laws and motion planning for autonomous robots. Charles has been an active member of VSCL since Spring 2015, where he has worked on projects including the Shape Memory Alloy Actuator Replacement, the autonomous railroad scout vehicle, and the Intelligent Motion Video Target Tracking for UAS.

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant and B.S. Aerospace Engineering student Blake Krpec has been selected for a Summer 2018 internship at Air Tractor, in Olney, TX. Blake will be working as an Aerospace Engineering Intern, where he will be working on developing on board electronic flight systems for production aircraft as well as systems for R&D flights. Blake has been an active member of VSCL since Fall 2016, where he has supported VSCL flight test projects relating to sensor integration and aircraft performance.

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant and B.S. Aerospace Engineering student Hannah Lehman has been selected for a Summer 2018 internship at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, IA. Hannah will be working as a Technical Systems Engineer on the Advanced Concepts team in Commercial Systems. She will be a part a new initiative in the Research and Development of autonomous systems for commercial purposes. Hannah has been an active member of VSCL since Fall 2017, focusing on human-machine interaction and the control of UAS with Machine Learning.

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant and B.S. Aerospace Engineering Student Victoria Nagorski has been selected for a Summer 2018 internship at Northrop Grumman Corporation in Melbourne, FL. Victoria will be working as a Technical Intern to investigate how to write a flight test plan. Victoria has been an active member of VSCL since Fall 2017, where she supports a variety of VSCL UAS flight test projects from aircraft performance test to sensor evaluation.

VSCL Undergraduate Research Assistant and B.S. Aerospace Engineering Student Christopher A. Marcario has been selected for a position at the Texas A&M Cybersecurity Center for calendar year 2018. Chris will be working as an Undergraduate Researcher for the Cyber Spectrum Collaborative Research Environment, which is funded by Air Force Research Laboratory through Clarkson Aerospace, to identify vulnerabilities and demonstrate exploits on civilian unmanned aerial vehicles. Chris has been an active member of VSCL since Spring 2018, focusing on evaluating human factors aspects for head mounted displays for Enhanced Vision System technologies in the Texas A&M University Engineering Flight Simulator.
